Nurturing the Pune Startup Eco-System through Open Communities

I’ve been helping the Pune OpenCoffee Club bootstrap itself here in Pune. The community is designed to help Tech. Startup Enthusiasts, Entrepreneurs, Developers, Advisors, Investors and everyone else.

Pune also hosts a number of other organizations aimed at Entrepreneurs – CSI-Pune, SEAP, TiE, NASSCOM to name a few. How is this different? To begin with, the OpenCoffee Club is an informal format. In other words, anyone could announce and arrange a networking event at the cafe round the block. Thanks to the informal approach, the group allows wacky ideas like the startup lunch initiative to be popularized.

The Pune OpenCoffee Club will be hosting a meeting sometime soon. Do write me or just watch this space so that I can keep you updated in turn. We are working hard to ensure that a few serious angels, investors and advisors make it to the meeting. That should make the meetup a useful one to those entrepreneurs who would like to understand the landscape.

To quote from the blog post that got everything rolling,

What is it?
This is an attempt to establish recognized, open and regular meeting places where entrepreneurs can meet with investors (and anyone else who fancies coming along) in a totally informal setting.

The key is a regular place and a regular time – it’s not important who comes along, some days it might be no one – just that people know if they want to meet, this is the time and this is the place.

We want to create some density for people — a few places where people know they can meet or bump into others.
